Description

Found near a moist area under some cardboard pieces. Was making a very loud constant call which I am not very good at describing. I'll submit a request for an ID at bugguide.net but any help would be appreciated.

Found under the highway near a vernal pool. Despite the apparent abundance of pollution life blazes on. Native grasses, sedges, insects, and even tree frogs are found here. This moss which was in a moist area near the pool stood out to me because of the sporophytes. I have no idea what this is, but still very interesting.

Found growing near a vernal pool, very moist ground. Seemed like some kind of sedge to me. The blade was like a tube that was about 1 1/2 feet tall. The seeds sprout 2/3rds the way up the stem. Hmmm, I wish I had a Jepson Manual.

I know this is a completely silhouette bird, but I feel pretty confident about the ID because of their common occurrence in the area and the call I was hearing.
