This tiny spider nearly passed me by. Because I don't have an SLR with a macro lens, this was the best I could do. I think IDing it will be tricky.
I love these little guys! They were all over the place at Cheesequake. Very jittery, you can see them move away from you in waves if you move too quickly through the mud.
These larger fiddlers were mixed in with the smaller Uca pugnax. I don't have a copy of Jocelyn Crane's great book on fiddlers so I don't know the technicalities of the differences between the two, but minax tend to be larger, whiter and have red marks on their joints.
People were crabbing for these with traps on the bridge above, but I was able to find them just waiting for me when I walked below it, easily scoopable with a net. As I put my net atop these guys they would rapidly grab it with both claws. They really live up to their aggressive image.
This oddly colored spider's web had a bunch of successful catches in it.
This hopper was much more camera friendly than the earlier variety. He let me get up very close to him to get macro shots of his face.
This hopper was very quick to run from me. This was the closest I could get to it before it took off.
This spider was living between cracks in the steps leading to the bridge over the march. I am unsure if it spins webs or not.
