This guide encompasses the species of birds identified on the main property of the Archbold Biological Station in Venus, Florida. When consulting this list, please keep in mind that many of these species are uncommon or are seen irregularly. Also included are species only seen flying over.
Note: This list was originally compiled from the 208 species recorded in the Birds of the Archbold Biological Station, Lake Placid, Florida by Fred E. Lohrer and Glen E. Woolfenden, March 1992 (http://www.archbold-station.org/html/datapub/species/lists/birdlist.html). We have supplemented this list with additional species recorded in eBird. Species from Lohrer/Woolfenden's list that were excluded here include escaped/domestic species (i.e., Mallard and Cockatiel) and species that have since been extirpated from Florida (i.e., Budgerigar).
This iNaturalist field guide was compiled by Archbold Research Assistant Emily Angell under the direction of the Education Department.
