Golden Gate Canyon State Park lies approximately 25 miles west of downtown Denver in the foothills of the Rocky Mountains. The park consists of 11,700 acres that lies across the boundary between the western edge of Jefferson County and the eastern edge of Gilpin County. Elevations range between 7,400 feet at the south and southeastern edge of the park to 10,388 feet at the top of Tremont Mountain. Lowland valleys and riparian areas contrast sharply with the steep slopes and cliffs of the uplands.
The purpose of this guide is to aid in the examination and identification of the numerous species present in the park.
