Under a large limestone rock near the front step...little guy about 2...maybe 2.5 inches from head to tail..very sluggish in the cool weather.. I had to prod him into a small hole beneath the rock so he wouldn't get hurt when I put the rock back down.

This pot-belly was in the garden area out here in the woods -- there are still a number of frogs around! So the question is: is it a Fowler's or American toad?? It looks to me like the partoid glands do NOT butt up agains the cranial crest (at least I can't see the cranial crests on this individual), BUT- it has 3+ warts per spot! So tell me which species you think this is, or is it possible that there are hybrids? I have found both species in this same general area of forest.
This tiny red/white/black striped snake is about 9" long, and it was in our house. Our cat was keeping track of it, and my husband came home and found it under a blanket, so he took it outside, and it was in the grass when i took these pix, some blurry, I know. Do you have any idea where it came from? We have never seen such snakes in CO. I'd received a package from CA today, so we thought it might have been in there, as there was a little gap in the wrapping, and we didn't open it right away, so maybe it crawled out of the package. He put it into the ravine behind our house. It never tried to attack. We think it is a baby. Can you help? scolburn@acsol.net Thank you.
