A family of river otters which lives in this urban wetland area.
I observed them on many occasions, but this was the first time I could get a photo successfully.
Observed in a mixed flock with other sparrows, and juvenile bluebirds.
I suspect this is a juvenile chipping sparrow because of the dark eye-line, strongly forked ends of tail and dark marks on the beak.
Please help with additional ID suggestions.
A juvenile coot observed with about 8-10 others coots and some mallards.
It was very strange to be observing coots and mallards, hear and see red-winged blackbirds singing in such an extremely arid environment. The few feet of water depth in the dam drew these birds in from many miles away!
A northwestern gartersnake observed in this urban wetland area, in a grassy meadow along the trailside.
One of the many red-eared sliders found around this urban wetland.
Interesting that a majority of them are strongly melanistic. Note the length of this one's fore claws. This indicates it is a male.
