Place

santa rosa (Google, OSM)

Description

While walking past my pool house an a hot day, I spotted a long skinny bug; a mayfly. He didn't move at all as I took pictures of him. He was pretty high on the wall, but not high enough for me to not get to him. The sun was directly on him.

What

Leaf Beetles (Family Chrysomelidae)

Date

May 20, 2012

Description

I was at Pepperwood preserve and I was walking through some of the grassland parts of Pepperwood, when I saw a whole bunch of Beetles gathered together, even on top of each other, on this plant. They liked to stay at the very top of the plant and also liked to be together with many beetles around them.

What

Rodents (Order Rodentia)

Date

April 17, 2012 11:38 AM PDT

Description

Out in the back of my school, there is a field. I was walking around out there, looking for exciting organisms, when I lifted up a tire and found this. It looks to me like this is a mouse nest. There were many other signs of mice and rats in that field from the holes I saw in the ground. I even saw some grass move quickly as if something was crawling away, but it was too fast for me to catch it.

Valley Oak (Quercus lobata)

Date

Place

santa rosa (Google, OSM)

Description

While walking threw howarth park, I noticed tons of these oak trees. Just some common oaks, but they must really enjoy howarth park, since there were so many of them. Most of them had some lichen growing on them, or poison ivy crawling up the side of it. The soil was mostly dirt with some dried leaves and sticks and stuff.

Mallard (Anas platyrhynchos)

Date

April 28, 2012

Place

santa rosa (Google, OSM)

Description

At howarth park, we were down by the lake and saw these ducks come right up to the shore of the water. I think they were probably hoping to get lucky for some food, since so many guests there feed the birds. They were swimming around with the geese, and getting pretty close to them. It was also a very hot day outside.

Odorous House Ant (Tapinoma sessile)

Date

Place

santa rosa (Google, OSM)

Description

In my backyard, there is this this pot we have had upside-down for a long time. It is placed by our pond. Today I decided to flip it over, and when I did, there was a whole ant farm! With ant eggs and ants crawling everywhere. I didn't see any queen ant, but I'm sure she is a little ways underground.

Out in my backyard, i saw this bumblebee resting on one of the steps that lead up to our backdoor. He wasn't moving at all, even when I got close to him he stayed still. It was, however, a hot day out so maybe he was just hot.

I heard a flicker like sound go past my ear when I was going up to Lake Ralphine, and when I went up to where the thing had landed, I saw this grasshopper. When it flew, it looked yellow, but when it was on the rocks, it blended in and looked a greyish-brown color. It was fast and is was hard to get a picture while it was still.

Striped Skunk (Mephitis mephitis)

Date

April 14, 2012 09:10 PM PDT

Description

This skunk was found with the raccoons I saw and posted. He ( or she) was enjoying eating the dog food right along side the raccoons. Though, he was a lot more skittish than the raccoons. I think it is a striped raccoon, because; 1, it fits the description. And 2 I live kinda close to the coast of California.
