Santa Cruz North Coast, Wilder Ranch, Baldwin Loop

I took a wonderful hike today starting at 4 mile beach, then across the highway and up into Wilder Ranch. Halfway up the trail, I saw what I thought was a tan dog, but had to be a mountain lion. He looked over his shoulder at me and calmly kept walking up the trail.

After a minute of consideration, I followed up slowly after him. A couple of minutes later around a bend, I saw a small dark tan Bobcat cross the trail! Really.

Up and around on the Baldwin Loop to 700 ft and turned around and hiked back to the highway. Right off the highway on the first ridge (hill) line I watched 2 redtails gliding around and hunting for around 10 minutes.

Truly a memorable day's hike (2 hrs, 5 miles) Mar. 21, 2012
