At first we thought they were blackberries so my mom and brother started eating them all. They were everywhere we hiked; next to highways. It was a nice sunny cold day. They were in bushes some ripe and others not so ready. |

The wings of each wasp were relatively the same length as its body, with antennae at the front of head that were each about half the length of the wasp's body. Each wasp had 6 legs, and were black/dark brown in color. Defining Characteristics: These organisms are protostomes. This is able to be concluded due to the fact that insects are a part of the phylum Arthropoda. This classification can be made through the presence of wings and antennae on each organisms, as well as the presence of a nest in which they reside. Habitat: These organisms were found in the stairwell of Halo 46, an apartment complex in Tampa. The stairwell is not sheltered or climate controlled, which is why these organisms were able to populate here. These wasps can be found on every continent except Antarctica, where it is too cold for them to survive. Reference: Bug Guide: Umbrella Paper Wasps. URL: https://bugguide.net/node/view/572 |
