Mountain Lion (Puma concolor)

Date

Description

Track set in Tucson Mountain Park, at urban interface. Tracks headed down an arroyo, heading northeast. Track age difficult to establish because of the coarse substrate: estimate more than 2 days old, but less than 1 week. I suspect this is the same animal that I observed tracks from, in a nearby arroyo (on the other side of the ridge). Track characteristics were undeniably typical of P. concolor: three lobed plantar pad, asymmetrical toe layout, gap between toes and pad forming the typical "C" shape.
