Description

This butterfly is likely to be a Field Crescent (Phyciodes pulchella), but the antennal clubs orange are typical of the California Crescent (Phyciodes orseis). Any suggestion?

Interesting, it definitely seems to share characters of both. It would be quite a ways out of range for P. orseis, though, and if you search CalPhotos and BugGuide for pics of this species (under Phyciodes campestris for the latter) you'll definitely find pics with orange-tipped antennal clubs.
