Everyone can see the coordinates unless the taxon is threatened.
Obscured
Public coordinates shown as a random point within 10KM of the true coordinates. True coordinates are only visible to you and the curators of projects to which you add the observation.
private
Coordinates completely hidden from public maps, true coordinates only visible to you and the curators of projects to which you add the observation. Observations with private coordinates will still be used to verify place check lists.
I was aware of the more resent name but was haveing trouble getting this site to assept ether name. Odd it assepted Weraroa novae-zelandiae now I am sure there is no hyphen in latin.
Hi Clive,
It's great to see some NZ fungi records on iNaturalist. In case you're interested, note that the New Zealand Bio-Recording Network is currently working on a New Zealand optimised version of iNaturalist, for launch later this year. Our developers are currently getting it hooked in to the local scientific and common names databases, among other things, and migrating across all of our existing NZBRN users' observations and accounts. We're working with the iNat developers on how best to connect the observations, users, and comments between the systems, so this is no reason not to continue to add your observations to the main iNat. If you find there are things you'd like to do with iNat but cannot, especially (but not exclusively) New Zealand specific things, please let us know. Our NZ developers are working with the amazing iNat creators to make iNat do more.
Cheers,
Jon
Hi Jon,
I visited the NZBRN website a long time ago and like others I found the site was so fill of bugs it was not worth wasting my time with.(May have been fixed by now) So my first suggestion is not to go live with a new site till its bug free!
There are a number of things about iNaturalist that concern me one been how an observation goes from casual to research grade that in needing another person to confirm Id. If your observation is unusual like slime moulds, a native fungi or requires work with a microscope then the chances are no one is going to be able confirm your Id.
My other concern is with projects other then creating a project and inviting others to join you have no control over it. I don't see anyway to have an observation removed if its off subject. or tagging an observation as doubtful identification thus when you down load the CSV file its going to contain a lot of garbage.
Comments & Identifications
Index Fungorum claims this is a synonym of Psilocybe weraroa. Here's the Index Fungorum page: http://www.indexfungorum.org/Names/namesrecord.asp?RecordId=307810

Well, scientific names aren't exactly Latin. Our name providers (Catalogue of Life and uBio) definitely have some weird stuff, but Index Fungorum even lists a hyphenated basionym, so I think that's an accepted practice (other examples from California: the fern http://www.inaturalist.org/taxa/Athyrium_filix-femina and the mushroom http://www.inaturalist.org/taxa/Laccaria_amethysteo-occidentalis).
