I have no idea what type of frog this was. It was in a protected marshy area and I couldn't get a close shot which doesn't help much!

The dorsolateral folds (running from the eyes down its back) separate this from the similar Bull Frog. Here a list of Michigan's amphibians according to that state Dept. of Natural Resources.
Thanks! I'll have to figure out how to limit the different types of animals by state. That's really useful.
I guess it's not super obvious. When you click "Species" in the header and search for something, you should see some filtering options on the left. Some of the places in iNat have checklists of taxa associated with them, so you can filter taxa by the places in which they occur. There are two problems, though: 1) this is all user-generated, so someone has to manually add taxa to a place's checklist, and 2) there isn't a way to declare a checklist comprehensive, so you don't know if you're seeing all the possibilities. I can deal with 2 pretty easily by just adding a "comprehensive" checkbox to the checklists, but 1 is the bigger problem. I've been adding them here and there, mostly for plants, but it can be kind of time consuming, even with the "add a batch" tool I added.
