Description

on CU Boulder campus. Has large orange dorsal band. We saw many of these on CU campus. Posted as part of the VertNet Biodiversity Informatics Workshop.

This is outside of the range of Bombus ternarius. It could be Bombus bifarius, Bombus huntii or Bombus sylviloa, with the first two more likely as they are more common. I cannot tell from this photo.

It is probably Bombus bifarius (do you have any other photos?) It looks like there is a V-shaped notch at the back of the thorax, which would be a defining character. If you don't have another photo that might show this character (better than the current one), Bombus sp. would be safest.
