Description

Nematomorpha - Gordiacea
( this is the first observation of Gordiacei cave worm in the cave of Limestone blade of La Spezia )
The nematomorfi or gordiacei
are a little taxon similar to
nematodes. Adults live generally in streams to slow course, pools and troughs.
Nematomorfi larvae are parasites of arthropods and Hirudinea.
The larvae are devoid of digestive system and feed on the organic substances of the host likening them through the wall of the body.
They undergo various mute until metamorphose into adults emerging from the skin or the anus of the host when it is in an aquatic environment or in its vicinity.
Adults are free from digestive system and they do not eat, are short-lived compared to the larvae and their main task is to reproduce.
They have the appearance of filaments about ten cm long and thick only about 1 mm. these filaments.
They are sometimes curled up to form a maze reminiscent of the Gordian knot, by
hence the name.
In the streams of the caves of Italy Northern are found occasionally; however, it is presumable for other species troglobitic or troglophile. Completely missing one
study of italian gordiacei cave worms.

Description

Meta menardi is a cave arachnid, troglophile, this spider has a visual system perfectly adapted to low-light environments.
Active predator, it weaves small webs, in areas without dripping.
it is a fast runner, what allows him to hunt Limonia nubeculosa attacking it without it being imprisoned in the canvas.
The legs are sturdy and the three joints allow the bending large, larger than in most other arachnids.
