Found in Avonhead residential area. Looks like a house sparrow but has strange white patches on its face and wings.

Description

These tracks were found in a residential garden. There are often hedgehogs and 3 neighbourhood cats that wander through the property. The grass was quite damp over the tracking period.

It has a black bib on its chest and a dark face making it a male. The house sparrows were either hidden in the Viburnum bush on the property, in the tree tops of two Honey Locust trees or on the ground plane.

Description

This butterfly survey was done at Lincoln University for a duration of 20 minutes with the purpose of seeing which type of butterflies are active in this area. The area chosen is enclosed by buildings and sheltered mostly from wind. It is rich in native New Zealand plants, and lacks many flowering plants at this time of year.It was a sunny but slightly windy day. The butterfly in the photo had one spot meaning it was a male.
