I found this very large fungus in my wooded (mainly beech) back yard. It has been tentatively identified as "artist's conk" -- some sort of ganoderma. It's growing right out of the ground, not from a tree trunk or fallen log.

We called this mama fence lizard "the Easter Lizard," because we spotted her on Easter Sunday in the tree in our front yard. I don't think she laid that egg, though!
