Shelf Fungi (Order Polyporales)

Observer

Description

I found this very large fungus in my wooded (mainly beech) back yard. It has been tentatively identified as "artist's conk" -- some sort of ganoderma. It's growing right out of the ground, not from a tree trunk or fallen log.
