What
Tufted Duck (Aythya fuligula)Observer
auedaDescription
I didn't actually notice this particular one until Ken-ichi pointed it out in my photo, but apparently they are cool.
What
Eurasian Coot (Fulica atra)Observer
auedaDescription
My photo is from a pond outside the Kasteel de Haar, which is a tourist spot outside Utrecht, but I very frequently see these guys in the canals of Amsterdam.
Edit: Just noticed yesterday that they have a very pointy, curved beak, nothing like a duck (probably because it's not a duck). Also, I was told that Mahler based some of the chords in his first and second symphonies on the noise that the Coot makes.

Least Sandpiper (Calidris minutilla)Observer

Not sure what kind of sandpiper it was. Pretty tiny- say, a bit smaller than a Mourning Dove. Saw it on the rocks at the jetty of Meigs Point.

What
Domestic Chicken (Gallus gallus var. domesticus)Observer
auedaDescription
Chickens run wild everywhere in Kaua'i. I think of them as the squirrels of Hawaii.
What
Green Anole (Anolis carolinensis)Observer
auedaDescription
I spotted this lizard on the side of the trail as I was hiking on the Napali Coast, probably around noon. After looking it up in The EcoTraveller's Wildlife Guide to Hawaii, it appears to be a green anole, but with brown coloring. I don't think it had a throat flap (although you can't tell from the pic), so either it's a female or just a flap-less male.
