A beetle on gumplant (Grindelia stricta).
Funnel shaped web, horizontally placed.
I'm guessing these nests are some sort of Agelenid (funnel weavers).
not certain of the identity yet. Nearby birds include egrets, herons, and gulls; I'm leaning towards gull.
These guys are common in pickleweed patches; I've seen them in emerald green, tan, and dark brown.
