Saw this herd of Roosevelt Elk at Hurn Field off of Highway 20, while driving back from North Cascades. This is Hurn Field and Forest Property of the Skagit Land Trust.

We had aspirations to make a hike up to Cascade Pass. Unfortunately, Cascade River Road, which leads to the trailhead, was closed about 2 miles away due to avalanches. Fortunately, we were able to do an great road walk.

My son Brian noticed this spider consuming a fly when we stopped to photograph a waterfall along Cascade River road. I helped him with some lighting and wind blockage while he used the serious macro setup on his camera. Meanwhile, I got a couple of shots with my Canon point and shoot.
