Northern Alligator Lizard (Elgaria coerulea)

Description

This Alligator Lizard was in my front lawn when I took the dogs out. It was cold and overcast outside and the lizard was lethargic. It became more active as it warmed up in my hand. After taking pictures I released the lizard where i found it.

Description

This hover fly is on a very early blooming Dandelion (Taraxacum spp.). We had an exceptionally warm winter and this is not the only plant blooming early. The fly's behavior was very sluggish. It did not fly away even when I leaned in very close with the camera.
