A neighbour says he planted this so I suspect it is sold commercially.
I couldn't identify it by a quick scan of http://www.wildflowersofontario.ca
It has sprouted in my lawn. It was present last year but is now established throughout the lawn.

I've taken out quite a few european buckthorns on my property, including some trees I believed were buckthorns right beside this tree.
The leaves on this tree have fine serrations which I think rules out Glossy Buckthorn and it's not a damp area. There are too many veins for European Buckthorn. The berry arrangement doesn't look like Buckthorn.
from http://www.restoringthelandscape.com/2010/10/invasive-buckthorn-and-native-look.html
the last picture shows the growing tips of a somewhat dried out stem I cut a few days ago
I'm wondering if it could be choke cherry.

growing in a north facing but sunny location in soil that had previously been shaded by Juniper bushes. Has come up from scratch this year and is now reaching 80cm. The closest I can come in http://www.omafra.gov.on.ca/english/crops/facts/ontweeds/weedgal.htm
is Giant Hogweed which may be poisonous. The stalks do have purplish specs but are not hairy (yet)

Growing in a back yard. I can't positively identify it in http://ontariowildflowers.com so I'm wondering if it is a non-native.
