This species has been present at Antelope Valley College since at least March, 2020, but today was the first time I got a photograph. I am just starting to document sites in the Antelope Valley. I suspect a former faculty member is releasing them but have only anecdotal evidence to support that hunch.

Southwestern Speckled Rattlesnake (Crotalus pyrrhus)Observer
choodDescription
Location was N 35.33.388 / W 115.35.782 at 1,538 meters.
This is north side of Clark Mountain on little-used "birding" approach. Cool and windy, about 60 F temp.
Snake was approx 1 meter in length based on width of track it crossed.
Pinyon / Juniper / cholla / yucca scrub.
Once it sensed me, rattled continuously and moved away into dense vegetation.
This solo observation report edited on 15 May 2020 replaces several duplicate postings. Apologies to my reviewers.

choodDescription
One observer claimed he saw 15 "buttons" on the rattle; in my photo only 9 visible and 15 seems an implausible number.
Under concrete / stones by the Tennessee Warbler stakeout in Hahamongna Park.
Also reported present on 26 August 16.
