What
Mallard (Anas platyrhynchos)Observer
cindyabramsDescription
Three males in pursuit of a female executing mating behaviors (fluffing wings, waggling tail feathers, aggressive behavior toward each other as they neared the female). Watched this behavior for about five minutes. She chose her favorite and followed him downstream. The other males took flight and then aggressively landed near the pair. The female headed to the bank of the stream under some brush. Her chosen mate seemed to then follow her. Then the sight was blocked from further study.

At least four herons have returned to the rookery in the same tree that they occupied last year. This is the first day that I have seen them since they departed last Fall. Good to see them again.
