Light lime green flying insect with greenish translucent wings and red eyes. Approx. 1 cm long. Landed on my daughter, appeared to bite her. Bite resulted in welt and caused her arm to be sore from the site at her wrist up her arm to her elbow. Very curious to know what this insect is.

Found on forest floor at 1800 feet elevation. About 4 inches tall with multiple protruding bodies. Also found some while trail running in the Shenandoah National Park at upper elevations.Had a difficult time figuring out what it was, but thanks to inaturalists now know it is a parasitic plant not a fungus as I thought it was. Thanks!

approx. 45 cm long, and brown in color with black stripes on legs, marking on back forms a "H" like pattern. found in small pond in backyard
