I am guessing this is the remains of a black-tailed deer, but I am pretty sure I am right.
This very small buck, which is probably at least two years old by looking at his antlers, came into our yard and was not afraid of people in any way. It was a bit scary how he would come up to you and would allow his head and back to be scratched.
We are hoping he will be coming back through this year but will be surprised if he survived because of his small size. I named him Buckie.
This was my first trip to Weimar Flats and it was in full bloom. along with the owl's clover was white brodiaea and spreading larkspur (Delphinium patens), among others.
