Description

Lampropeltis holbrooki specimen found under a pile of aluminum. Specimen was a juvenile measuring just under 30 cm. interesting to note that a an Eastern Coachwhip (Masticophis flagellum flagellum) measuring roughly 152 centimeters was found under the same pile of aluminum.

Description

Coluber (Masticophis) flagellum flagellum specimen found under a pile of aluminum. Specimen measured roughly 152 cm and displayed the characteristic color change from head to tail (black to brownish copper). Interesting to note that a juvenile Lampropeltis holbrookie was found under the same pile of aluminum.

G. infernalis found under rocks in a rock pile on the property of Barton Creek Habitat Preserve in Austin TX. Rock pile was found in the edge of an Ashe juniper wood line next to an open field. Specimen had partial regrowth of tail (see pics). Partially cloudy day, roughly 70-75 degrees F.

Description

B.valliceps captured on the grounds of the Independence Creek Nature Preserve in west Texas. Specimen found sitting in the open, on a rocky outcropping, on a cliff overlooking a flood plain (elevation 639m). Specimen was preserved and added to the University of Texas herp collection. Captured during fair weather, overcast, just after dark, roughly 60-65 dergrees F.

Description

C. atrox found on the grounds of the Independence Creek Nature Preserve in west Texas. Specimen was observed roughly 15 meters from creek, heading away from water. Captured and preserved in the University of Texas herp collection. C. atrox specimen appeared to have recently eaten. While processing for preservation, stomach contents were examined, revealing two juvenile rabbits of unknown genus/species (pic included). Captured at night, cool conditions, roughly 55-60 degrees F.

S. olivaceus found burrowing under rocks in a flower bed near the guest quarters at Independence Creek Nature Preserve. The specimen is female, and gravid (pic included), leading me to believe she might be constructing a burrow to lay her eggs. Description

Found along Waller Creek on the campus of the University of Texas at Austin. this snake was climbing in a small bush about 2 feet off of the ground. Waller Creek has a high concentration of Nerodia erythrogaster, and only a few obsoletus specimen have been found here.

S. consobrinus collected on the campus of Jarvis Christian College in Hawkins TX. Collected at 11:52 am, sun was just beginning to show though clouds. Specimen was found on the side of a dead log in an area where the sun was shining through the trees. Temperature was roughly 62 degrees F. Dry conditions.

Description

A. contortrix specimen observed on the campus of Jarvis Christian College in Hawkins TX. Found laying outstretched in a small depression roughly 10 meters from a raised wooden walkway in a swampy area. Specimen was relatively non-aggressive, but was collected with snake hook and container. Temperature at time of collection: approx 65 degrees F. Wet conditions, scattered showers during the day. this was the largest snake observed on this evening.
