A kereru flew into the large lounge window at the front of the house. It wasn't a 'head on' collision but the bird seemed to be flying across the front of the property and struck the window with the right side of its head and body taking the impact.
The bird has rested and then tried to fly away but has so far been unable to do so.
The kereru was collected (Urban Wildlife Trust | Kererū Discovery) and was taken away for recuperation.

The kereru flew IN through my west facing open back door and crashed into a window trying to exit through the east side of the house. This was 5:20pm.
The bird was alive and lying on its back on the dining room floor. I retrieved it from the dining room floor and secured it under a laundry basket on the back lawn, where I gave it half an hour to settle and 'recalibrate'. Upon removing the laundry basket, the kereru attempted to fly but failed.
I then placed the bird in a cardboard box to give it more time to recover. Not wanting to try and set it free after dark, I kept it in the box overnight. At around 11pm, I put the box in the bathroom and closed the door as the kereru was pecking/clawing the box, which provided some hope that it would survive.
Unfortunately, the bird died overnight.
