The smooth-fronted caiman (Paleosuchus trigonatus) habits the running waters of streams and rivers in the Amazonia.
The black caiman (Melanosuchus niger) ocurrs at low densities at Sistema Lacustre Río Cuyabeno, Ecuadorian Amazonia. However, the Canangüeno lake particularly supports abundant populations of this species. This female M. niger sized 143.4 cm in total lenght and was observed and captured by noosing during population spotlight surveys carried out by the author.
