Luna Moth (Actias luna)Observer
ewrightDescription
This moth was outside on my porch last night. I have only seen about three Luna moths in my life, and I think this one was the best so far! I think that it is a male because his antennae are large and bushy. I read that females' antennae are usually smaller.

Owlet Moths and Allies (Superfamily Noctuoidea)Observer
ewrightDescription
I found this moth as a chrysalis under a piece of bark on a rotting log in the woods at Louisa County High School. It hatched overnight, and our moth was.a mottled gray color. Unfortunately, in its days in the Petri dish, the powder rubbed off of its wings and ended up a dull white color. We were able to let this moth go, but I am still unsure of its identification.

Least Shieldback (Atlanticus monticola)Observer
ewrightDescription
This is a rather frightening cricket that was found in the grass by the pond at Louisa County High School. It is unique in its coloring and shape, so he was difficult to identify. Although it looks scary, I caught it with my hands and it did not try to hurt me. It has long antennae and is a distinct light brown color.

Eastern Tent Caterpillar Moth (Malacosoma americana)Observer
ewrightDescription
This is an eastern tent caterpillar that was found in tall grass at Louisa County High School. These are everywhere here, and they are regarded as a local pest. It was not hard to identify at all because they are so common. These tent caterpillars are fuzzy and cute, but their tent-like nests can be harmful to trees.

ewrightDescription
This is a small green stink bug- like insect that I found under a leaf in the woods at Louisa County High School. It was very calm in its demeanor, and it was not hard to capture it at all. It blended in very well with the leaf that it was on!
