Description

What is this multi-branched flower? It began blooming about a week ago -- first on one stalk, and now on all of them. It is the only one of its kind in the area. It may be the result of sowing a mixed bag of seeds last fall. We had one butterfly mix bag and one bag of seeds intended for pollinators.

At first I thought this was a bluebird or maybe a painted bunting. Thanks to the comments my posting received, I now know that it's a cardinal who has lost his feathers.
