What

Pied Currawong (Strepera graculina)

Observer

gheranggherang

Date

Description

Why have a two tone, black and white camoflage in a world of greens and browns?
A Pied Currawong (Strepera graculina) lurks in a shady tree. Notice the way that light falls in two places at the top of the bird, and white tail simply looks like a continuation of that light.

What

Crimson Rosella (Platycercus elegans)

Observer

gheranggherang

Date

January 16, 2017 10:00 AM AEDT

Description

A juvenile Crimson Rosella (Platycercus elegans), dispersing from its parents territory to find its own.
As the juvenile Rosella is particularly susceptible to the falcon, the colour scheme is a more camoflaged green rather than the bold reds and blues of the adult.
New years resolution for this bird- find a hollow with food around it, and establish it as home.
