Description

This has to be one of my most exciting West Oakland finds yet. I know its just the Cali slender sally but it wasn't exactly in a place I would've figured to be the most hospitable place for a salamander. Found it next to an extremely large illegal dumping rank with all kinds of noxious smells all the same this little guy perseveres.

This manzanita has been growing along side this blacktop for quite some time. Not completely sure if its a volunteer leftover from some old seed bank, or if it was planted. I love it because its one of the few natives growing in the area.

Miner's lettuce Claytonia perfoliata

Date

Description

Found miner's lettuce growing through the cracks of concrete in the wilds of west Oakland. Seemed to be covered with a peppering of soot, dirt, diesel, and a dash of port of pollution so I shied away from a tempting nibble. None-the-less it was nice to see a native bursting out of the sidewalk for a change.
