Date

Description

Blue-faced Ringtail
Erpetogomphus eutainia
male
Guadalupe River, Independence Park,
Gonzales, Gonzales Co., Texas
9 October 2007

This species is only known from 5 counties in Texas and the U.S. One of the rarest dragonflies in the U.S. but it is known to occur south to Costa Rica. I have not seen the species since 2012, but we hope every summer lately that we will find it again. This is a record I had not posted on iNat previously.

confirmed by song. Common species in this area in the coastal woodlands. Wrong habitat for Ash-throated which is more of an open country bird of desert scrub, and Great Crested does not nest here at all.
