I am Microstylum morosum and I am the biggest, baddest Robber Fly in The U.S.....and I'm looking at YOU! I see you pointing that silly camera lens at me and all I have to say is you better be glad I am not the size of a pit bull or I would liquify your insides and drain you dry and leave your shriveled up carcass on the roadside!

first time this species has been in my yard. This is a female.
male Lavender Dancer. Very uncommon to rare in central Texas; more typically found farther west in Texas.
Well....how embarrassing!!! I fly in here to score a few sunflower seeds and you take my picture and here I am, in the middle of a postnuptial molt and I've lost all my head feathers! Even my ear openings are visible. Quite rude of you to do this. Wait for 2 months and I'll look super again!!!
