Found this dove on base, out of range for Tortuguero
Found this Trogon on one of our forest survey's. Looks like a juvenile male Black-throated Trogon but the tail is very short. Any other identification idea's would be great.
Splendid male seen eating at our base. According to our books their range is not thought to include Tortuguero.
Found this snake on base and we have ID'd it as Tretanorhinus nigroluteus. Everything we have read suggests it is very unusual to see them in Costa Rica and we have certainly never come across one before. Would appreciate it if anyone is able to confirm this ID. The snake was around 60cm long. We found it on dry ground, which is apparently unexpected for this species, although we do live in a swampy area and the base had been waterlogged several days before the sighting.
This male was observed on base.
