hampet26Description
A large and tall turf of Cladonia sp. forage/reindeer lichens. Found on the northeast side of the Mima Mounds prairie reserve. There appear to be two distinct color forms in this turf. Possibly they are the same species, but with the darker form lacking usnic acid. A sample was collected for identification.

What
Tube Lichens (Genus Hypogymnia)Observer
hampet26Description
Epiphytic foliose lichen of the Hypogymnia genus. Found growing on ALRU beside footbridge on the road into Opal Creek. Specimen was not collected so positive ID from photo alone is not likely. However, notice the soralia erupting from some of the lobe tips, the loosely-appressed growth, and the lack of apothecia.

hampet26Description
This turf moss was found on very decayed conifer log, in a road cut along a creek beside the road to the Opal Creek education center. Another specimen which appeared to be the same species was also found nearby growing as an epiphyte on ALRU trees. It has crispate (curly) leaves and numerous very short branches. A sample was collected for identification.
