hdlee15Description
I saw this bird while walking down the trail to the water front. A striking blue in the absence of the leaves at the end of fall. Its nose as compared to the size of its head was the most striking. I'm pretty sure this is a Belted Kingfisher. The shape of its beak was very unique, pointy but also hefty.

What
Pillbugs (Genus Armadillidium)Observer

This bug had smooth to dark gray on its back, light underside, with groves running horizontally along its back like an armadillo's armor. Their ability to to form their bodies into a ball shape, in a process known as conglobation distinguishes them. It crawled around feverishly.
What
Ants (Family Formicidae)Observer
hdlee15Description
Thorax, abdomen, and head are all black and glisten in the light. The mandibles of some species are very unique and the differences usually signify a difference in species. Based on the large head, fairly big mandibles, and long antennae I'd say that I saw a carpenter ant.
What
Earthworms (Family Lumbricidae)Observer
hdlee15Description
I believe this is just a common earthworm. It was very large. Pink and pale in variations across the body. There were distinct breaks in the body. It was writhing around in the soil, trying to get deeper as it had just been washed out by rain.

hdlee15Description
This mushroom is small but stout. The stipe is relatively small but thick. It is rough, floccose, and off brown. The cap is beginning to separate and crack along the edges, exposing a tan/brown surface. The cap is concave and a medium brown color, and relatively rough. The underside of this bolete is a dirty yellow and spongy, with no gills.
What
Common Gilled Mushrooms and Allies (Order Agaricales)Observer
hdlee15Description
I really don't know how to ID this mushroom. It is relatively small in both height and width. It has a flat and almost concave cap, which is grey and smooth. The gills are separated from the stipe and are not compact. The gills are white and almost ruffled. The feature that puzzles me is the shape of the cap, it seems as though it has been cut up, it looks like an asterisk. I don't know if this is just from growth of the mushroom or if its supposed to look like this.
What
Shaggy Parasol (Chlorophyllum rhacodes)Observer
hdlee15Description
I believe that I have found a very young shaggy parasol mushroom. It looks like a puff ball mushroom as of now. The stipe is thin, long, and off white to gray. The cap is covered with small tufts if hair. The surface is rough in some areas and smooth over the hairs. The cap itself is white to pale. There are gills underneath that are yet to be exposed.
What
Inky Agaricus (Agaricus moelleri)Observer
hdlee15Description
I'm not quite certain what this mushroom is. It is in a grouping of two. The stipe of the mushroom has a ring present. The majority of the mushroom is white to pale gray. The cap is more convex and not exactly slimy. The gills are seceding from the stipe as well and fairly compact. I believe that this is some kind of Amanita mushroom.
What
Artist's Bracket (Ganoderma applanatum)Observer

I'm pretty certain of this type of mushroom. I believe it is closely related to Artist's Conk. This mushroom was growing out of the base of Douglas-fir snag. The mushroom was hard to the touch but somewhat slimy. The rounded edges and bottom make it feel as if its wood. The top is black to brown to grey. The edge has a white trim to it.
