Description

This male hylid was found calling at night after the first rain of the season above a temporary pond along the 'Hummingbird Highway'. At least six other frog species, including the Mexican Burrowing Toad (Rhinophrynus dorsalis) and one snake (Leptodeira septentrionalis) were found in sympatry on that same night.

Description

Several dozen Mexican Burrowing Toads were found calling at night after the first rain of the season and were observed in amplexus as they crossed the road in search of temporary ponds. The sound made by the chorusing frogs was almost deafening! At least six other frog species and one snake (Leptodeira septentrionalis) were found in sympatry on that same night.
