Our neighbour found what looks to be insect egg cases in steel pipes purchased in Napier, NZ. The internal diameter of the pipe is approx 15mm. He cut through the 6m pipe about 1 m from end and found a fibrous matrix like creamy-coloured kapok containing 20+ empty oval cases about 10mm long, coloured a dark brown. He has other pipe bought at the same time with the same cases in them also. He is concerned to know if the hatched insects(?) might be a biodiversity risk.
