Flowers in chaparral, below 2,000' elevation, San Gabriel Mountains. Three (not four) petals, pinkish petals, yellowish interior. Normally cup shaped? Or still opening?
Invasive purple colored thistle, common here. The urban environment makes me think it's a milkthistle and not the native Cirsium occidentale var. californicum of the foothills.
