A mouse nest found on the bank of a shallow pond , underneath a wooden plank. The nest was made of dry grasses. There were five babies in the nest. They were blind and had little fur. The hole that contained the nest also contained a mother newt and her babies. No mother mouse was found.

The lichen was growing on a live blue oak. It looked lacy. It was a mint green color. It covered about a third of the branch it was on. It felt stiff and rough.

The flower was located in a semi-shady area at the edge of a grassy area. The soil was dry. Five of the same flower were within an eight foot radius. The flower was a bright violet color. In the center there were three small white petals pressed against the larger outer petals. The flower buds were long and pointed.

The grasshopper was located in a dry grassy meadow. It was approximately half an inch long. The antennae were about two centimeters long. The legs were about an inch long. It was light tan colored with brown markings along the sides.

The mushroom was found on a dead log. Over one hundred other examples were on the same log. The area was shady and dry. Other lichen species were living in the same area. The under layer of the mushroom was soft. The upper layer was rough and a dark brown color. Other examples of the same mushroom were either a light grey or dark brown color.

Giant Chain Fern (Woodwardia fimbriata)Observer

The fern was found in a partially dried up creek bed (the water was less than an inch deep). It was shady and the soil was slightly damp. The fronds were over two feet tall. Small bumps were found on the surface of the fronds. Three other plants were found within a six foot radius. The leaves were rough and course. The fiddle was furry and approximately five inches tall.

The frog was found in a shallow pond. It was a shiny copper color with brownish-black marking around its eyes. It was approximately half an inch long and a quarter of an inch wide. Two others were found approximately ten feet away.

Found by a shallow pond. The weaver's web was sticky and made in tall grasses. One other Weaver was living next to it. The abdomen was black with yellow markings. The legs were black with brown markings. It was approximately two inches in length and three-quarters inches in width.

The mantis was found near a shallow pond. It was within tall , stiff , green grasses. The mantis was approximately one and a half inches in length. It was light lime green with orange antennae. There were small black and white markings on its forearms.
