First time that I have seen Wood Frogs in such an abundance.
Awesome little Tiger Salamanders found during a rainy night in Southern Illinois. The pool was mainly filled with Spotted and Smallmouth Salamanders, but I managed to catch a few tigers with my dip-net.
Always nice to see a Mud :]
My favorite native skink..The broad-headed skink! (Eumeces laticeps)
Black Rat Snake I came across cruising down route 127. Very nice looking rat. Reminds me of an actual Texas Rat Snake.
Beautiful little Mole Salamander (Ambystoma talpoideum) found underneath a decomposing log near the slough.
Absolutely beautiful! I love how they have blue snowflakes all over their body.
Something that I have noticed about Missouri's Eastern hogs is that they retain their juvenile saddles unlike most of Illinois Eastern hogs. Incredible no matter where they are found. They still have the same attitude :]
This is the western Slender Glass Lizard..absolutely incredible! Im not sure if they get their common name from how smooth their scales are or how easily their tail breaks off into pieces.
The smallest species of snake in Illinois :)
This is my favorite species of Nerodia that can be found here in Southern Illinois. Although drab and looks like an Anaconda, it is my favorite Nerodia to encounter.
Definitely one of my favorite native colubrids. Very seldom do I get a temper from a getula.
This Osage Copperhead (Agkistrodon contortrix phaeogaster) calls the glades of Missouri its home. They are commonly found underneath large, flat rocks where the glades connect with the forest. They look very similar to the Northern Copperhead, but the dorsal lateral triangles lack dark blotches in between them.
A beautiful (4.5ft) coachwhip found underneath a slab of dolomite on the Missouri mini-deserts. I was surprised to see it play dead like an Eastern Hognose :] That definitely made my day!
