Found on rough ground, alongside road, under Pinus radiata.Together with larger specimens up to 18cm diameter. Mature examples were a mass of rust brown spores.
Flesh white and firm with no noticeable smell. Surface covered with irregular patches formed from very fine fibres.
Initial impression was of Scleroderma citrinum, but white flesh and size excludes that possibility. Lycoperdon utriforme maybe?
