What

Blue Jay (Cyanocitta cristata)

Observer

kg9239

Date

May 7, 2015 08:00 AM CDT

Description

Weather: Overcast, humid, 75 degrees F

Description:
White and grey on belly with blue back. Black markings around face. Very distinct call.

Observation:
I was in my front yard when I could hear several Blue Jays making their alarm call in the backyard. I ran back there to find my dog licking a baby Blue Jay that must have fallen trying to fly. I quickly ran over to get my dog away as the adult Blue Jays were trying to swoop down on him. Luckily the baby bird was able to fly away but after I let my dog back outside I watched the adults continue to swoop down on my dog and follow him as he sniffed around the yard, totally oblivious to the fact that these birds were trying to attack him.
