What
Common Reed (Phragmites australis)Observer
kirstenengineerDescription
This plant grew in a ditch, close to one another. I believe there would normally be water directly underneath the plants, but it was hard to tell with the excess of snow.

What
Shelf Fungi (Order Polyporales)Observer
kirstenengineerDescription
This fungus did not look like typical mushrooms, but looked like a disease on a tree stump. The clusters were hard to the touch, possibly frozen from the weather.

These mushrooms were growing on a tilted tree in the forest. The mushrooms were all relatively the same size, they were clustered together.

What
Shelf Fungi (Order Polyporales)Observer

This big fungus was very hard, but did not seem wood like. It was below a tree, right on the bottom of it. It looked like a growth on the cedar.

Mushrooms, Bracket Fungi, Puffballs, and Allies (Class Agaricomycetes)Observer

This fungus was growing on a stump in a forest. There were no other groups of fungus like this visible through the snow. The fungus seemed to be frozen, but still living.

What
Guelder-Rose (Viburnum opulus)Observer
kirstenengineerDescription
This tree was by itself, not close to other trees of its kind. It was also neat that the tree was still carrying berries despite the fact that it is the middle of winter.
Photos / Sounds
What
Eastern White Pine (Pinus strobus)Observer
kirstenengineerDescription
This tree looked slightly different than other pines in the area. It seemed more "droopy" and the pines were softer and less stiff than typical coniferous trees in the region.

What
White-tailed Deer (Odocoileus virginianus)Observer
kirstenengineerDescription
These two deer were outside of our cottage, and peeking inside! They travelled together, but seemed to be alone, the two of them. They were hunting for food, nibbling at plant life.

What
Turkey-Tail (Trametes versicolor)Observer
kirstenengineerDescription
These small mushrooms/fungi were growing on a stump of a tree. I brushed away the snow and was able to see the numerous small growths. I believe they are mushrooms but could be a different form of fungus.

What
Ring-billed Gull (Larus delawarensis)Observer
kirstenengineerDescription
This bird was one of many in the area. The birds seemed to be interested in french fries and other greasy foods that beach-goers were consuming. The birds traveled together, however, this one was grey, while most were white.

What
Common Raccoon (Procyon lotor)Observer
kirstenengineerDescription
I took these pictures of this racoon in my friend's backyard in Caledon East, Ontario. He was fairly large, but was not as big as racoons I have sen in the city, probably due to less garbage to scavenge.
