Description

Pretty common wherever there were bodies of water around Gunjur and they seem to be permanent residents of Footsteps Lodge's fantastic dipping pool, but this one was out on one of the scrubland trails after rains.

These tiny frogs were very common at night on the trails all around Gunjur and were very well camouflaged against the sandy soils.

Came to drink at a water hole in Abuko Nature Reserve. Its back was covered in horse flies and it stalked several birds that came to drink once it went under the water.

Description

I couldn't identify this small frog, it could just be an unusually patterned Hyperolius spatzi? Or maybe Afrixalus vittiger? Both seemed to be abundant in this area or nearby.

Found at night in the scrub bushland near Gunjur, The Gambia.

From what I've read two species of blind snake have been recorded in The Gambia and this appears to be the most likely of the two.

This was found on a small forested trail near Gunjur.

This large (2m) was emerging from the hollowed out centre of a tree, unfortunately our torches seemed to startle it and it quickly got back into cover, where we took the sensible decision to keep our distance and not disturb it further.
