Observations by kristasingswithtrees

This larval newt was one of several found in a small, man- made pond that has lately been utilized by various frogs, toads, and most recently red- spotted newts. I would like to know if this is a red- spotted newt larva.

I believe this is a giant root borer. It was seen hanging on a screen door. When disturbed, it flew a short distance, then climbed up the wooden railing where I was able to photograph it.

It was observed just before dark.
