Description

My preliminary ID is Neotoma lepida (Desert Woodrat). Animal photographed in situ. Estimated length 8 inches. Animal was located in a sheltered hollow in sandstone outcrop, where it had created a midden of Prickly Pear cactus and other material. Surrounding area is semi-arid, open high plains country , latitude 47.6deg North, longitude 109.3 deg West: north central Montana, USA. This location is some 500 miles NE of the Neotoma lepida range maps that I can find. Please confirm ID. Thank you!
