I noticed the rings of holes around the trunk a few days ago and wondered if it was a sapsucker. Then I was parked in front of it again and suddenly noticed the bird was there! Could it be a female? I didn't see much red on the head.
Not thrilled to find this on my deck. Not too sad it is dead, tho.

I could barely get a shot, but I'm sure it was a hummingbird moth! It came to visit everyday for a week or two.
